The new head coach of Araz-Nakhchivan, Andriy Demchenko, has spoken to Ukrainian media about his departure from Kazakhstan’s Zhenis and his recent appointment in Azerbaijan.
According to Idman.Biz, Demchenko stressed that the separation from his former club took place within previously agreed terms and without any conflict between the sides. He said he was proud of the team and his coaching staff, noting that they managed to put together a 14-match unbeaten run and climb to sixth place. “We could have achieved even more, but in some matches luck was clearly not on our side,” Demchenko said.
Speaking about his appointment at Araz-Nakhchivan, the coach described it as a new stage in his career. He pointed out the rapid development of football in Azerbaijan, noting that Qarabag are participants in the Champions League group stage, while strong teams such as Sabah, Sumgayit, Zira and Neftchi are also competing at a high level. Demchenko said he sees good prospects for work in the country and is highly motivated by the new challenge.
The Ukrainian specialist also commented on the upcoming match against Neftchi, coached by his compatriot Yuriy Vernydub. Demchenko highlighted Vernydub’s experience and expressed interest in the future encounter. “It is enough to say that he once beat Real Madrid in the Champions League. It is always interesting to compete against an experienced coach and his team. I am really looking forward to our meeting,” Demchenko said.
