“Some of our wrestlers were participating in an international tournament for the first time.”
It was told to Idman.biz by Arif Abdullayev, the senior coach of Azerbaijani U-20 national freestyle wrestling team.
The experienced specialist assessed the performance of our team at the Nejad Hashemi Cup held in the Iranian city of Behshehr. He said that one or two of our wrestlers were injured in the competition: “We participated in this tournament with 20 athletes. Athletes from 11 countries participated in the competition. We won 5 medals in the tournament and took 3rd place in the team standings with 100 points. Overall, it was a good experience for us. Of course, we could have performed even better, but nevertheless, the achieved result can be considered satisfactory.”
Azerbaijani national team, Anar Jafarli (92 kg), Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) and Omar Gulmammadov (74 kg) won silver medals, while Sadraddin Hasanov (57 kg) and Nurlan Agazade (70 kg) won bronze medals.
