Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has expressed concern over the team's defensive injury problems ahead of their UEFA Champions League Matchday 4 encounter with Aston Villa.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Barcelona's official website, the German manager admitted that the absence of several key defenders has created a difficult situation for the Catalan club.
"We have four injured players: Xavi Espart, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde. When we look at the quality of the defenders we have lost, we can see that dealing with this situation is not an easy task," Flick said.
However, the Barcelona coach praised the attitude of players willing to adapt to unfamiliar positions to help the team overcome their defensive problems.
"But when I see Frenkie de Jong returning from injury and saying he can help the team in that position, it's fantastic. The same goes for Brian Fariñas," he added.
With four defensive options unavailable, Flick may be forced to make tactical adjustments and deploy midfielders in defensive roles against the English side.
Barcelona will host Aston Villa at Spotify Camp Nou today, November 3, in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase.
It is worth noting that Barcelona are also among the opponents of Azerbaijan's Sabah in the Champions League league phase. The two teams are scheduled to meet in Baku on November 25 in Matchday 5 of the competition.
