Barcelona fined €602 over unauthorised talks with Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has fined Barcelona €602 for holding talks with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez without following the required procedures.

As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Mundo Deportivo, the decision was made following a disciplinary investigation launched after a formal complaint from the Madrid club.

On June 30, Atletico Madrid contacted both the Spanish Football Federation and FIFA, accusing Barcelona of approaching their player without providing the required prior written notification. Disciplinary proceedings were subsequently opened on July 30.

Following its investigation, the federation classified the violation as a minor offence. Nevertheless, Barcelona were handed the maximum financial penalty of €602 permitted under Article 133 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Barcelona have faced sanctions following a complaint from Atletico Madrid over negotiations with one of their players.

In 2019, the Catalan giants were fined €300 for their approach to Antoine Griezmann, who subsequently completed a high-profile move from Atletico to Barcelona.

Alvarez, meanwhile, has been playing for Atletico Madrid since joining the club from Manchester City in 2024. The Argentine international has made nine appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

The 2022 World Cup winner remains under contract with Atletico until the summer of 2030.
