Former France and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has named Kylian Mbappe as his preferred winner of this year's Ballon d'Or.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing Madrid Xtra, Henry believes the Real Madrid forward deserves the prestigious individual award despite failing to win a major team trophy last season.
"I think Mbappe should win the Ballon d'Or. Individually, he was the best. Kylian won the Golden Boot in the Champions League, the World Cup and La Liga," Henry said.
Mbappe also made a decisive contribution to Real Madrid's opening Champions League league-phase match, scoring in the 2-1 victory over Inter Milan.
The main argument against Mbappe's candidacy is the absence of team silverware. Real Madrid did not win a major trophy last season, while France's World Cup campaign ended in the semi-finals.
The Ballon d'Or recognises the world's outstanding footballers, with individual performances, team achievements and overall impact among the factors considered in the voting.
Henry, who won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France, is widely regarded as one of the greatest forwards of his generation. He also enjoyed a highly successful club career with Arsenal and Barcelona.
