Hungarian Football Federation president Sandor Csanyi, one of the eight vice-presidents on the FIFA Council, has openly challenged FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing AFP, Csanyi sent a letter to Infantino in which he questioned his professional competence, ethical standards and leadership qualities.
Csanyi said that the confidence he had previously placed in the FIFA president had now been lost. According to the Hungarian football official, the dismissal of FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour was the final straw.
Lamour had reportedly criticised Infantino's plan to sell part of the commercial rights to the FIFA World Cup to private investors.
"My confidence in your ability to successfully and effectively lead FIFA has been shaken," Csanyi wrote in his letter to Infantino.
The dispute comes amid controversy surrounding Infantino's unsuccessful attempt to attract private investors to the World Cup's commercial rights. Against this backdrop, a growing number of football organisations are reportedly distancing themselves from the current FIFA president.
Csanyi's intervention is particularly significant given his position within FIFA's leadership structure as one of the eight vice-presidents on the FIFA Council.
