John Terry to auction off his “tear-soaked” Chelsea shirt

Former Chelsea captain John Terry will put a number of personal memorabilia items up for a charity auction, linked to the most memorable and dramatic moments of his career at the London club, İdman.Biz reports.

Among the lots is the iconic shirt from the 2008 Champions League final against Manchester United, which Terry himself described as “soaked in tears” after missing a decisive penalty in the shootout in Moscow.

Also set to go under the hammer is the full Chelsea kit from the 2011/2012 season, when the club won the Champions League for the first time by defeating Bayern. Despite being suspended for the final, Terry appeared at the trophy presentation in full playing kit and lifted the trophy alongside his teammates.

The auction, featuring 26 lots, will be held by Goldin Auctions in New Jersey and will conclude on December 31. All proceeds will go to the John Terry Foundation, which supports several charitable organizations in the United Kingdom.

The most valuable item is expected to be not a shirt, but Terry’s Premier League winner’s medal from the 2004/2005 season, when Chelsea won the English league title for the first time in 50 years. The medal is expected to fetch up to £75,000.

The collection also includes match-worn shirts exchanged with football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Thierry Henry. According to the former England defender, he decided to part with these cherished items not because of a loss of sentimental value, but to support a good cause and help those who truly need assistance.
