The European Weightlifting Championships for Masters are underway in Durrës, Albania.
Azerbaijan’s team, which traveled with five athletes, saw four of its veteran lifters reach the podium, Idman.biz reports.
Zulfugar Suleymanov (M40, 67 kg) and Vagif Musadig (M70, 81 kg) claimed gold medals for the team. Suleymanov, a silver medalist at the senior European Championships, also set a new record among masters by lifting 137 kg in the clean and jerk—surpassing the previous record by 1 kg.
Meanwhile, Natig Hasanov (M45, 96 kg) and Eldar Mammadov (M45, 130 kg) both secured silver medals.
The Azerbaijani athletes have now completed their performances. The championships will conclude on May 10, with Elxan Suleymanov representing Azerbaijan as a referee.
