FIVB addresses Vietnamese players’ gender test controversy

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has issued a statement regarding the Vietnamese volleyball players who failed the gender test.

Previously, the FIVB had annulled the results of the Vietnam team at the U-21 Girls’ World Championship held in Indonesia due to two of the team’s players being male, Idman.biz reports.

“As stated in the announcement, (the matter of the Vietnamese volleyball players) has been sent to the FIVB Disciplinary Commission for further evaluation, and we will not comment on it while this process is ongoing.

The FIVB takes gender rights issues seriously and fully adheres to the regulations approved in 2020. According to these regulations, the FIVB primarily relies on documentation, while the FIVB Executive Board reserves the right to approve additional tests in cases of medical reasons or discrepancies.

These regulations ensure fair competition for all athletes participating in a gender category and also support the principles of inclusivity,” the FIVB statement emphasized.
