Two Vietnamese volleyball players have failed gender tests at the Women’s U21 World Championship in Indonesia.
Idman.biz, citing Jakarta Globe, reports that the two athletes from Vietnam’s national volleyball team were identified as male.
The gender verification test was conducted at the request of the opposing team, who suspected a violation of the rules.
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has annulled the results of all matches in which the athletes participated and expelled them from the tournament.
As a result, the Vietnamese team will be unable to qualify for the round of 16 and will instead compete for 17th–24th place. The Vietnam Volleyball Federation has filed an appeal with the FIVB regarding this decision.
