“Although we defeated Azerbaijan in Baku, we couldn’t adapt to the game the way we wanted.”
These were the words of Slovenia women's national volleyball team head coach Alessandro Orefice following the first stage of the CEV European Golden League, Idman.biz reports.
Slovenia played two matches in Baku, securing convincing 3-0 victories over both the host team, Azerbaijan, and Hungary. Despite the clean sweep, Orefice praised the Azerbaijani side:
“I don’t want this to sound like an excuse, but we’re not yet in peak form. Azerbaijan played well, and now we must work hard to be better prepared for the second stage of the tournament.”
He also emphasized the importance of the win in Baku:
“I’m very pleased with the victory—it was important not only for our ranking but also for team confidence. This was just the first stage of the tournament. We didn’t play at full strength, and I expect the upcoming matches to be more challenging. Next, we head to Portugal.”
