Baku is preparing to host the prestigious Alufar IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon competition.
As reported by İdman.Biz, more than 1,500 participants from 62 countries are expected to compete in the Azerbaijani capital on September 5.
Azerbaijan will be represented by 123 athletes.
The IRONMAN 70.3 competition will feature men and women across 13 age categories: 18–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79 and 80–84. Among the registered individual participants, 807 are men and 197 are women. The youngest competitor is 18 years old, while the oldest is 80.
A relay competition will also be held as part of Alufar IRONMAN 70.3. A total of 47 men's, women's and mixed teams will compete. The three most active clubs will also receive awards based on the results of the event.
Participants in the IRONMAN 70.3 will complete a 1.9-kilometre swim, a 90-kilometre cycling stage and a 21.1-kilometre run.
The 25 best-performing male and female athletes at IRONMAN 70.3 Baku will qualify for the 2027 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in the United States.
As part of the Alufar IRONMAN 70.3 Baku programme, IRONKIDS and Fun Run events will take place on September 4. Children aged 5–8 will compete over 500 metres in IRONKIDS, participants aged 9–13 will cover one kilometre, while those aged 14–17 will run two kilometres.
The five-kilometre Fun Run will be open to participants aged 18 and over. Registration for both events is currently ongoing.
The competitions will be organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation and the Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
