The Azerbaijani national team won 2 medals at the European Junior Taekwondo Championship held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

Shams Alizade (160 cm), who was released from the first round, faced Sweden's Nazaah Waliullah in her debut match. Azerbaijani taekwondo player, who won a 2:0 victory over her opponent, defeated Barbara Strzemkowska (Poland) by the same score in the 1/4 finals. She met Laura Kujacic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the semi-finals and recorded this match as well - 2:0.
Shams continued the successful series in the final. The member of the national team, who fought with Serbian Sanja Brkic, won both parts this time. The member of the national team won the title of European Champion and played the national anthem of Azerbaijan in Belgrade.
Another member of our team, Ilyas Hatamli (160 cm) also rose to the podium. He defeated Nathan Degiorgio (Malta) and Dmitry Stepurenko (Ukraine) consecutively with a score of 2:0 and qualified for the semi-finals. Our Taekwondo player faced Abubakr Shaiikhmagomedov (AIN) at this stage. Since Hatamli lost with a score of 1:2, it ended the European Championship in the 3rd place.
It should be noted that Alizade won a silver medal at the World Junior Taekwondo Championship held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in August.
