Azerbaijan has won 300 medals in Islamic Solidarity Games to date

Azerbaijani athletes have won a total of 300 medals in the Islamic Solidarity Games held so far.

According to Idman.biz, citing Report news agency, out of the awards from the previous four editions, 114 were gold, 99 silver, and 87 bronze. Azerbaijan ranks third in the overall medal standings, behind Turkiye (239 gold, 206 silver, 200 bronze) in first place and Iran (118 gold, 96 silver, 106 bronze) in second.

In 2005, at the first Games held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijani athletes reached the podium 15 times, winning 4 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals, placing 8th in the medal table.

The 2009 II Islamic Solidarity Games, scheduled in Tehran, Iran, were canceled for certain reasons.

In 2013, Indonesia hosted the III Islamic Solidarity Games. Azerbaijan again ranked 8th, winning 6 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze medals.

The IV edition took place in 2017 in Baku, where Azerbaijani athletes earned 162 medals (75 gold, 50 silver, 37 bronze) and finished as the top nation in the standings.

The V Islamic Solidarity Games were held in 2021 in Konya, Turkiye. Azerbaijani athletes won 99 medals (29 gold, 36 silver, 34 bronze) and ranked fourth overall.

The VI Islamic Solidarity Games have started today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Azerbaijan is being represented by 179 athletes across 20 sports, with 57 countries competing for medals in 23 sports in total.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for November 7, and the closing ceremony will take place on November 21.
