"Hidayat Heydarov is on the first place in the world ranking in his weight. We expect only victories from him."
This was said by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, commenting on Azerbaijan's judoka Hidayat Heydarov becoming European Champion for the 3rd time in Montpellier.
He appreciated the success of the 26-year-old athlete in the Continental Championship. Gayibov also noted: "Heydarov is considered one of our hopes for a medal at the next Olympics. Of course, it is difficult for him as an athlete to win every time. But Hidayat is a very strong judoka. We believe in him. We were all happy that our athlete was awarded the title of European Champion for the third time. Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games is less than 1 year away. One of our medal hopes is Hidayat Heydarov. I wish him success and most importantly health. We expect Heydarov to sing our national anthem again in France."
It should be noted that Heydarov won the title of the continent's strongest player for the third time after defeating Spanish Salvador Cases Roca in the final of the European Championship held in France. In 2017, in Warsaw, and in 2022, in Sofia, the judoka placed on the top of the podium.
