World championship: First day ended without medal for Azerbaijan - VIDEO

The World Judo Juniors Championships has kicked off in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

Idman.biz reports that on the first day, six athletes from Azerbaijan's national team took part in the competition, competing across four weight categories.
None of Azerbaijan’s judokas could win a medal in 4 weight classes.

World Championship - Boys
60 kg

Nizami Imranov began the tournament with a strong victory, defeating Turkmenistan's Mekan Ramazanov in the 1/16 finals. Imranov wrestled with Pino Balbin (Colombia) in the 1/8 finals. He also won this duel. In his next attempt, Nizami wrestled with Vladimir Ulyanov (IJF). The match ended in favor of the Azerbaijani athlete. Imranov challenged Yamako Fukuda (Japan) in the semifinals and will compete for the bronze medal as the opponent has advanced to the finals. However, Kazakhstan's Talgat Orinbassar took 3rd place and Nizami became 5th.

Meanwhile, Mahammad Musayev met Simas Polikevicius (Lithuania) in the 1/16 finals. The Azerbaijani judoka, who won the title, knocked out Hyeonsu Yoon (Republic of Korea) in his second attempt. He challenged Japanese Kairi Kentoku in the quarterfinals. Since the match ended with the opponent's victory, Musayev participated in the consolation match. Mohammad also lost to German Kobets (IJF), so he finished the world championship in 7th place.

Islam Rahimov faced Ukraine’s Hahik Martirosian in the first round but was unfortunately defeated.

World Championship - Girls

48 kg
Konul Aliyeva defeated Victoria Sibille (Belgium) in the 1/16 finals, but then lost to Kristina Dudina (IJF).

52 kg
Khadija Gadashova secured a win in the first round by defeating Maya Nuritdinova from Turkmenistan. She defeated Kairat Ayaulym from Kazakhstan in the 1/16 finals. Unfortunately, Gadashova could not defeat Alissia Poulang (France) in the 1/8 finals.
Aydan Valiyeva beat Bulgaria’s Denitsa Georgiyeva at the start. She was also stronger than Finestrone Ilaria (Italy). Valiyeva tested her strength against Iroha Oi (Japan) in the quarterfinals and was upset by the defeat. Since Aydan's path to the championship was closed, she faced Tajikistan's Madina Gurbonzoda in the consolation match. Since Valiyeva won, she will fight for the bronze medal. Valiyeva won and faced Mio Huh (Republic of Korea) for the bronze medal. Our judoka was defeated this time and finished the world championship in 5th place.

Azerbaijan is represented by 13 judokas in total at this year's World Championship.
