Farid Gayibov: "The main focus will be on the European Championship"

President of European Gymnastics, Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov made a statement to the traditional "President's Notes" section of the organization's website.

Idman.biz reports that the minister talked about the interesting events that happened in the continental and world gymnastics in the last month.

Sharing his thoughts on the results of the licensed rhythmic gymnastics world championship held in Antwerp, Gayibov said that the results of the analysis regarding qualification for the Olympics are very gratifying: "For example, seven of the nine teams that qualified in men's gymnastics are European. 11 out of 17 individual quotas are representatives of the "Old Continent". I am sure that the European athletes will easily pass the preparatory stages and will come to the Games in good shape."

He also touched on the continental championship in acrobatics held in Varna and noted that competitions in European age groups of this type were held before: "Teams from 22 countries came to Bulgaria. This number is more than the previous two European championships. Surprisingly, this number also exceeds the composition of the last two world championships. This also indicates the progress of European acrobatics.

The minister added that the acrobats will not have much time between the two big competitions: "I congratulate all the EURO winners and runners-up, I wish them productive training in the next few months until the World Cup in March." The very short period between two big competitions is not encouraging for our athletes. After all, Europe accounts for about 70 percent of the total number of World Cup participants. Therefore, the next European acrobatics championship will take place in the spring."

The president of European Gymnastics also expressed his impressions about the 52nd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) held in Istanbul: "According to the agenda, the approval of the constitutional changes, submission of reports to the EOC regarding sports events, as well as awarding of prizes are included in the agenda. I had the opportunity to meet with my colleagues - presidents of many European federations, heads of a number of NOCs. In general, it was very interesting to exchange ideas on future cooperation regarding the development of sports."

According to Farid Gayibov, all the main attention will be focused on this year's European championship - in Antalya, aerobics masters will reveal the strongest.
