This was said by Khatai Baghirov, a mini-football player of Zira club, who was a guest of Idman.biz studio.
He gave an explanation of why he was charged with smuggling while he was a member of the Azerbaijani futsal team: "I wasn't there. There is someone who used to play football with me. I don't want to talk about him. The man we grew up in the same neighborhood offered to me, knowing what the outcome would be. He said the reason was different. At first I didn't want to accept either. But then I asked my teammates to help me with something like this. That's how it ended."
Khatai did not dispute having made a mistake in this regard: "Everyone knows that we are not involved in this matter. Of course, we should not make such mistakes. I should have been careful, I should have asked others, not him. After such situations happen to us, we think about what we should do. The reason why I didn't ask others was that he exaggerated his family problems and personal issues. Everything is now in order. I also transferred the fine I had to pay."
It should be noted that this scandal happened in March 2023. Two futsal players of the Azerbaijan national team, Khatai Baghirov and Khazar Aghalizade, wanted to bring 24 units of "iPhone 13 Pro Max" and 24 units of smart watches into the country, which were not declared at the customs border. The futsal players were detained by customs officials when they tried to bring the goods from Turkiye to Azerbaijan. Each of them was fined 1,500 manats.
