Azerbaijani karting pilot Davin Jafarov made a memorable appearance at the Open Karting Championship held in Palmela, Portugal.
22 drivers from 3 countries competed in the X30 category at the international Palmela track, Idman.biz reports.
Despite facing a major setback early in the competition, Davin showcased impressive resilience and determination.
In the initial stage of the race, Davin was involved in a crash after a trailing driver failed to brake in time and collided with the rear wheel of his kart while traveling at 80 km/h. The incident caused a temporary halt to the race.
Fortunately, after being examined at the hospital, no fractures or head injuries were found. With medical approval and his own insistence, Davin was cleared to compete in the final stage.
Starting from 17th position, Davin managed to climb up to 9th place in the final rankings. Competing under the effect of painkillers, he overtook eight seasoned opponents.
In recognition of his determination and speed, Davin was awarded the “Fastest Driver” medal by Nuno Ignacio, Portugal director of the renowned Birel Art team.
Set to turn 16 this September, Davin is already a notable name in the karting scene. He previously won the Portugal Cup in the EK125 CC category.
Davin races for Birel Art Portugal, a team known for nurturing Formula 1 stars like Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. As a certified international karting driver, he continues to represent Azerbaijan with pride and promise.
