A bold new proposal may see Azerbaijan’s Formula 1 Grand Prix moved to a flame-shaped artificial island being developed as part of the Sea Breeze Resort complex.
According to Unikal, Azerbaijani businessman Emin Aghalarov presented the project during the “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025”, alongside Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, Idman.biz reports.
Agalarov noted that the idea has the support of the President of Azerbaijan.
The flame-shaped island would be the second artificial island created under the project—following a crescent-shaped one already under construction.
Aghalarov emphasized that relocating the Formula 1 circuit would help alleviate traffic congestion and road closures in Baku, a recurring issue during past races.
Baku has hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix since 2017, and this potential move could mark a major shift in the event's future in Azerbaijan.
