Former Formula 1 driver Thierry Boutsen believes Lewis Hamilton’s struggles at Ferrari in 2025 are similar to the problems George Russell is currently facing.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the Belgian former driver said Hamilton struggled last season with both his confidence and the characteristics of his car.
“Lewis is Lewis, and he deserves to be at the top. He has been at the top all his life, but last year was difficult for him. Last year, Lewis faced the same problems George is facing now: confidence, a car that wasn’t performing well and all those details created a very unpleasant situation,” Boutsen said.
According to Boutsen, Hamilton was able to demonstrate his potential again once the car improved.
“As soon as the car got better, he delivered the result and won in Barcelona. I was very happy for him,” the former driver added.
Boutsen also believes Russell can emerge from his current difficult period as a stronger driver. He recalled Niki Lauda’s words that there is not much to learn from victories, while stressing the importance of defeats in a driver’s development.
“When you lose, you learn a lot. You have to analyse yourself, the problems with the car, the team and your relationship with the team. When you overcome all of that, you start winning again. You can’t win all the time,” Boutsen said.
