New Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris took part in post-season testing in Abu Dhabi, but did not use the champion’s number 1 on his McLaren car, İdman.Biz reports.
According to FIA regulations, the right to use this number comes into effect only after the results of the season are officially confirmed.
The status of world champion and the ability to replace a permanent racing number with the number 1 is granted only after the FIA’s annual award ceremony. In 2025, the event will take place on Friday, December 12, in Tashkent. Until that moment, the number 1 formally remains with the reigning champion — Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who has used it for the past four seasons.
Nevertheless, Norris found a way to mark his achievement. During the test day, he took to the track wearing a golden helmet, and in the paddock he appeared in official world champion gear - becoming the main symbol of the closing Formula 1 season.
