Azerbaijani young talent impresses at World Karting Championship in Italy

This year, the 24th World Karting Championship (World Grand Final) took place at the “International South Garda” track in Lonato, Italy.

According to Idman.Biz, the competition, held across five categories, featured a 1,200-meter track. Since its inception in 2001, the tournament has been considered one of the most prestigious events in the karting world.

607 drivers from various countries, including European and world champions, participated. Among them was young Azerbaijani motorsport talent Davin Jafarov, representing Portugal and competing for the first time in the BMB category at the world championship as part of the BirelArt Portugal team.

Due to a minor crash during the qualifying rounds, Davin had to start from 32nd place. Demonstrating outstanding skill, he advanced through the semifinals and finals. In the final, he overtook 24 drivers, breaking the previous record of 14 overtakes set by Italian pilot Lorenzo Pinyanelli, and also set the fastest lap of the race.

This performance attracted significant attention from commentators and participants. Several international team managers, including representatives from Milan-based AW Racing, approached Davin, congratulated him, and even offered him a spot on their team. However, the young driver chose to continue competing with BirelArt Portugal.

Reflecting on his performance, Davin said: “This was my first time competing at this level, on this track, and in the BMB category. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance for practice sessions before the race. The championship had 607 participants across five categories, including world and European champions. The race was intense, but I managed to reach the semifinals. Despite starting from 32nd place due to a minor incident and chassis issues, I overtook 24 drivers and finished 8th overall. Competing from so far back on such a tough track was extremely challenging, so this is a huge achievement for me and my team. Many other pilots and team managers approached our tent to congratulate me, amazed by my performance. Representing Azerbaijan and proving our potential on the world stage was an incredible experience, and the support from my fellow countrymen motivates me even more.”

Davin Jafarov is expected to participate in two more international karting competitions by the end of the year.
