Interview with Turan Tovuz Board Chairman Ehtiram Guliyev for Futbolxeber.az.
– Your team secured a 1–0 away victory over Neftchi. How would you assess the match?
– It was an interesting and tough game. It seems this season’s championship will be very challenging. Our team isn’t fully ready yet. You know, some players joined the team later. The break in the championship due to national team matches has come at a very good time for us. We must use it effectively. I believe that after the break, we’ll see a better, more entertaining Turan Tovuz.
– 6 points in 3 games. How do you evaluate the start?
– Very good. All three games were difficult. In the first round, we played against Imishli on artificial turf. Araz-Nakhchivan and Neftchi are also ambitious and strong teams. Therefore, the results of the first three rounds satisfy us.
– The transfer window isn’t over yet. Are you planning to strengthen the squad?
– Our search continues. If possible, we plan to make 3 transfers, at minimum 2. We are in a difficult phase right now, but negotiations are ongoing.
– Setting the championship as a goal for the team is somewhat unexpected…
– First and foremost, the players, and then our fans, must be ready for it. The Turan spirit is strong, and I want to bring this spirit back to the team. That’s why I set the championship as a goal. I see the potential and believe in the team. By “championship,” I mean aiming for the title and remaining competitive until the final rounds. I understand it’s difficult, but I repeat, I trust my team. We also want to gradually convince the players and fans of this goal.
– Won’t this create pressure on the team?
– No, it won’t. Mountains will give way to someone who knows the path they need to take. Therefore, the destination must be known. The players already feel this.
– The championship is the maximum goal. I assume the minimum goal is qualifying for European competitions. Is that correct?
– Right now, we are aiming for the maximum. We are not thinking about the minimum.
– How is the situation at the Tovuz stadium?
– It’s good. If everything goes according to plan, work should be completed in the second half of October.
– Qarabag qualified for the Champions League group stage. What is your opinion?
– Qarabag is our pride. They represent Azerbaijan well in Europe. We wish them success. I am hopeful and believe that they will make us proud in the group stage as well.
