Andriy Shtogrin set to part ways with Neftchi

Andriy Shtogrin has reached the end of the road with “Neftchi,” the club he joined last summer.

Idman.biz, citing Sportinfo.az, reports that Baku officials are close to reaching an agreement with the Ukrainian legionnaire, who does not want to leave Azerbaijan.

Significant progress has been made in negotiations between the two sides. Shtogrin has agreed to terminate his three-year contract in exchange for certain compensation.

At present, only a few minor details remain, which are expected to be resolved soon.

“Neftchi” representatives tried to help Andriy until the last moment. They contacted colleagues working in several Premier League clubs, expressing their willingness to loan out the 29-year-old winger.

The “Neftchi” were even ready to cover part of Shtogrin’s salary to make the transfer happen.

Roman Grygorchuk’s favorite lost his place in the starting lineup after the coach’s departure. Failing to gain the trust of Samir Abasov, the forward was not registered for the new season.

Left out of the squad list submitted to the Professional Football League, Shtogrin currently earns $17,000 in salary.

His name has also been linked with some Ukrainian clubs, with “Chornomorets,” his former team, topping the list.

However, the ongoing war has discouraged him from returning to his homeland, mainly because of his wife. She feels happy in Azerbaijan and insists that her husband remain here.
