Fenerbahce drew 0-0 at home against Benfica in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff round.
Kerem Akturkoglu, whom the Istanbul club wants to sign, started the match in the visitors’ lineup, Idman.biz reports.
Interestingly, Benfica presented their starting XI on social media using a photo of the Turkish national team player.
Before the game, during warm-ups, the former Galatasaray player responded with applause to the cheers of the “Fenerbahce” fans.
However, during the match, like the other Benfica players, Kerem was booed whenever he touched the ball. In the first half, he took a free kick that was saved by goalkeeper Irfan Can Egribayat.
Fenerbahce’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, was also seen shaking Kerem’s hand as he was substituted in the 77th minute.
According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Benfica has decided not to sell Kerem and will keep him at the club. Sources close to the team reported that Benfica president Rui Costa did not authorize his transfer to Fenerbahce.
