Araz-Nakhchivan management dissatisfied with Omonia results

The results of the matches against Cypriot club Omonia in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League did not satisfy the management of Araz-Nakhchivan.

Idman.biz reports that this was stated by the club’s executive director Eldaniz Yusubov in an interview with Report news agency.

The club official shared his thoughts on the team’s performance in European competitions this season: “It was our debut season in European competitions. Our performance in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League was successful. We played quite well. The team had been assembled in a short time, and 70-80% of the squad had changed. Nevertheless, we were well-prepared for European competitions. We overcame a very tough opponent, the Greek team Aris. Unfortunately, we could not continue this performance in the next round against Cypriot club Omonia. The team underperformed in both matches. We will analyze the reasons. It was our first experience in European competitions, and perhaps the opponent was strong enough. The management is not satisfied with the results of the matches against Omonia. But we should consider it was a debut. The team deserved more, and we can look to the future with hope.”

He added that the management has met with the players and coaching staff: “Of course, the management shared their views on the Omonia matches. Expectations for the team were high, but the results did not satisfy us. The management expressed their dissatisfaction. However, we believe in the players, a major goal has been set for the championship, and they know they must compete for it from the first round.”

Yusubov also spoke about upcoming targets: “Right now, we are focused on the championship. Today we have our first match against Zira. We hope to make fans forget the failure against Omonia with our performance in the league. We want to delight our supporters only with victories. Our goal remains ambitious. We aim to qualify for European competitions and compete for medals in the Premier League.”

Araz-Nakhchivan lost both matches against Omonia in the third qualifying round of the Conference League – 0:4 and 0:5.
