The 2025/2026 season of the Misli Premier League kicks off today, featuring 12 teams in the top flight. Clubs have been active in the summer transfer window, preparing seriously for the new “football year.” But how ready are the teams for the championship, and what are their goals for the season?
Report news agency conducted a survey among the head coaches of Premier League clubs, Idman.biz reports.
Elmar Bakhshiyev (Araz-Nakhchivan): “We strengthened positions we had planned for. The players we wanted are now with us. As the team gradually gels, we’ll become stronger. I wouldn’t quantify readiness in percentages. Our goal is to qualify for European competitions. Other clubs have strengthened too, and new teams have joined the league, making the championship more exciting.”
Valdas Dambrauskas (Sabah): “We need to work more this season, solving last season’s issues. Transfers are decent. We aim for European qualification and to win every match we can.”
Samir Abasov (Neftchi): “Preparations were at a high level. Pre-season games are different from the championship pressure. We’ve almost completely changed the squad, which may require an adaptation period, but the new players are of quality and will strengthen us.”
Aykhan Abbasov (Shamakhi): “We made transfers according to our budget. I believe the new players will help. I can’t say in percentages how ready we are, but we will improve game by game. Our goal is to maintain our Premier League status.”
Sasa Ilic (Sumgayit): “We’ve largely completed the squad but may add one or two players. Preparations have been productive, and the goal is to achieve as high a position as possible.”
Adil Shukurov (Kapaz): “Transfers are ongoing. I can’t quantify readiness in percentages yet. We’ll fight for 6th–8th place based on our budget.”
Kakhaber Tskhadadze (Gabala): “Every team needs strengthening. Some players join faster, others need more time. Our goal is to maintain Premier League status.”
Jorge Casquilha (Imishli): “We’ve signed some local and foreign players. Some couldn’t join, but work continues. Our main goal is to avoid the relegation zone and progress in the Azerbaijan Cup.”
Azar Hashimov (Karvan-Yevlakh): “We managed to sign some good players. The team is 60–70% ready. We aim to maintain Premier League status, be competitive, and surprise the season.”
