Aqil Nabiyev, head coach of Azerbaijan’s U-17 national football team, expressed hope that his squad will achieve successful results in their group during the first stage of the 2025/2026 European Championship.
Idman.biz reports that the coach shared this in an interview with Report news agency.
He spoke about the current training camp, which is ongoing in Baku and will continue from August 17 to 22 in Podgorica, Montenegro: “As you know, in the European Championship, we have faced the national teams of France, Israel, and Romania. Our opponents are strong, but we are preparing seriously for the matches. Unfortunately, some of our players are injured. Our goalkeeper, Rauf Ayyubov, will undergo finger surgery today. In addition, a few players are currently undergoing rehabilitation. We will continue the first phase of preparation in Baku and the second phase in Montenegro, where we will play a friendly match against the local team.”
The coach also noted that they have analyzed their friendly match opponent: “I was appointed to this team in March. It’s hard to change too much in a short time. I hope we will perform well and finish in one of the top two spots in the group. We have studied Montenegro, who we will face in the friendly match. They finished their last game with a win. If we implement what we want on the field, we can secure victory. Unfortunately, some of our players have physical condition issues, but hopefully these will be resolved in time. If the players remain together for a long time, they will understand each other better.”
Azerbaijan’s U-17 team, placed in Group 9 of the first stage, will compete against France, Israel, and Romania. The first stage matches will take place between July and November 2025.
