“Galatasaray” is determined to sign a new goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season and has long identified Manchester City star Ederson as their primary target.
However, financial difficulties are threatening this transfer, Idman.biz reports.
The high transfer fee demanded by Manchester City and the salary demands of the Brazilian goalkeeper have complicated negotiations. Meanwhile, the Manchester club recently signed James Trafford from Burnley, and Pep Guardiola is expected to prefer him as the main goalkeeper this season.
Due to the increasing unlikelihood of the Ederson transfer, according to Sempre Barca, Galatasaray may turn to a familiar name – Barcelona’s goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
The 26-year-old player was loaned to Galatasaray in the second half of the 2021/22 season, where he guarded the goal in 6 Super League matches. Currently, coach Hans Flick considers him the fourth-choice goalkeeper at Barcelona.
According to reports, Galatasaray is preparing an offer worth 8-10 million euros for the Spanish goalkeeper.
However, the club will face serious competition in this transfer. Serie A club Como has also joined the race to sign Pena.
Barcelona wants a buy-back clause and a percentage of future sales in any potential transfer agreement. Additionally, the Catalan club will only agree to Pena’s departure after Eric Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny’s official registrations in La Liga are completed.
Galatasaray does not view Pena only as an alternative if the Ederson transfer falls through — the club sees him as a long-term investment, valuing his leadership qualities, composure, and ball-handling skills.
According to Sempre Barca, Pena’s future is still uncertain, but he has the potential to play for a club like Galatasaray, and all eyes are on how this situation will develop.
In the first round of the 2025/26 Super League season, Galatasaray’s goal was guarded by Gunay Guvenc.
