Interview with Huseynali Guliyev, new signing of “Imishli”, for Futbolinfo.az
– Let’s start with last season. What led to your former club “Sabail” being relegated from the Premier League?
– If a club is relegated from the top league, it means there’s fault on everyone’s part. It can’t be blamed on a few individuals, everyone is responsible.
– What can you say about your move to “Imishli”? Did you have other offers? Why did you choose this option?
– Yes, I had other options. But I wanted to join a club where I could get more playing time. I’m happy to have signed with “Imishli”.
– “Imishli” recently played a friendly against “Karvan-Yevlakh” (1:2) as part of its Premier League preparations. What are your thoughts on that match and the training process?
– True, we lost to “Karvan-Yevlakh”, but it’s still the early phase of preparation. There are things we need to improve. We believe we’ll be able to resolve the shortcomings before the season starts.
– What will “Imishli” aim for in its first year back in the Premier League? Is the team strong enough to fight for a particular position?
– We haven’t been set a specific target in terms of league position. But we, as players, will do our best to ensure the team finishes in a good place. The club’s goal is to contribute positively to Azerbaijani football.
– The appointment of Jorge Casquilha, a relatively unknown foreign coach, rather than a local figure, was met with mixed reactions. What are your first impressions of him? What are his qualities as a coach?
– Every player should approach this professionally. What’s written in the media about Jorge Casquilha doesn’t concern us. Right now, he is our coach, and we must follow his instructions.
– Despite Sabail’s relegation, you were remembered for many crucial saves last season. Do you think you can deliver an even better performance with “Imishli” in the new season?
– I gave everything I had on the pitch last season. God willing, I will do the same this season and give my all in every match. I’ll also try to correct my shortcomings through individual training.
