AFFA spokesperson Elnur Mammadli has stepped down from his position.
The news was shared by the well-known sports journalist on his personal Facebook page, Idman.biz reports.
He reflected on his years in the role: "Exactly two years ago today, during a turbulent period at AFFA, I accepted the offer to lead the Media Department, fully aware of the risks involved. However, I believed that step by step, it would be possible to improve the not-so-great relationship between AFFA and the press. I also knew that doing so would come at the expense of my own reputation and credibility. But at the time, there was a belief that things would change for the better… It was a time when the Premier League had started to follow sporting principles, the Second League had been established, and there was even talk behind the scenes about a local coach potentially leading the national team. Back then, many people genuinely believed in a brighter future...
If I had even a small role in improving the relationship between AFFA and the media, as the Turks say, ne mutlu bana (how lucky I am). I want to thank all my colleagues. I believe we understood each other, even during the most critical times. What matters most is that we can all look each other in the eye moving forward.
Life goes on. Undoubtedly, things will get better. We'll meet again.”
Elnur Mammadli was appointed as AFFA's spokesperson in August 2023.
