Alexei Savinov: "Petrocub is capable of a comeback" – INTERVIEW

Interview with Aleksey Savinov, former captain of Moldova and ex-player of "Baku", published by Sportal.az

– Did you believe that Petrocub would achieve a positive result against Sabah?

– Of course, I believed Petrocub would achieve a positive result. Even now, I believe they can advance to the next stage. I know Petrocub won’t surrender easily to Sabah because they are a team with strong character. The return leg will also be interesting.

– Sabah lost to Celje in the Europa League qualifiers and will continue in the Conference League. Expectations are high for them. What are your thoughts? Did you like Sabah?

– Sabah should be congratulated on their successful result away from home. They didn’t concede a goal against Petrocub, which shows that Sabah is a well-organized team. They scored two goals and capitalized well on Petrocub players’ individual mistakes. This means a correct strategy was implemented, and players with high individual quality are playing in attacking positions.

– Do you think Petrocub can make a comeback in the return match in Baku?

– I’m sure it’s too early for Sabah to feel relaxed. I repeat: Petrocub is a team with character. I believe they will fight until the very end.

– What’s your prediction for the match in Baku?

– I don’t like making predictions. But I’ll repeat what I said earlier: I’m sure Petrocub will prepare better for the away match and fight until the last minute.

– If Petrocub doesn’t qualify for the next round, how will this be received in Moldova?

– Naturally, it won’t be considered a good result. The team has achieved success in European competitions in the past. Fans have different expectations. I’m sure the club’s management, coaching staff, and players themselves won’t be satisfied if they don’t go further. Ahead of the return match, Sabah is the favorite. But Petrocub is capable of making a comeback.
