“Sabail” will be aiming for the championship in the First Division in the new season.
According to Idman.biz, the team’s head coach Elvin Mammadov said this in an interview with Report news agency.
The specialist emphasized that their main goal is to return to the Azerbaijan Premier League: “We will begin training on July 25. We’ve already signed Rahman Hajiyev. Team captain Yusif Nabiyev has also remained with the squad. We have players with Premier League experience. That means we’re building a competitive team. Our goal is to return to the top flight. We plan to play four friendlies during the training camp, but the opponents have yet to be determined.”
Mammadov added that they want to strengthen the attack: “We already have enough defenders. We’re looking to reinforce the forward line with a few foreign players. We want to fill the gaps and be more ambitious. The club management has created conditions for negotiations with the players I want and those we can afford. The goal is to build a strong team. Rufat Abdullazada will leave the team. His departure has already been agreed upon. In general, we’ve parted ways with around 80 percent of the players from last season. We’ve kept the captain and a few others, most of whom were members of the reserves training with the main squad. As for Soulyman Allouch, who is under contract with the club, he has been placed on the transfer list.”
Sabail finished 10th in the Azerbaijan Premier League last season. The team will compete in the First Division in the 2025/2026 season.
