Sabah aims to delight fans with success in UEFA Conference League.
This was stated in an interview with Report news agency by Vagif Sadygov, chairman of AFFA's Coaches Committee, Idman.biz reports.
He advised against underestimating any opponent: “In fact, we believed we would get past Celje. Sabah had the potential to do so. Looking at the goals conceded, it's clear that the head coach needs time to address shortcomings. Against Petrocub in the next round, playing superior football can lead to a positive result. We must understand that we shouldn’t look down on any opponent. At the same time, we shouldn’t allow anyone to look down on us either. Sabah’s performance showed that there’s no need to fear any team. It’s also very important to treat opponents with respect. The matches against Petrocub must be approached with utmost seriousness.”
The former head coach of the Azerbaijan national team emphasized that Sabah performed well in both legs against Celje: “The first match showed that the second leg would be intense. The goal conceded in the final minutes of the first game affected the overall result. Nevertheless, I believe Sabah showed a good performance in both games. I am confident that the team will delight its fans by achieving success in the UEFA Conference League.”
The Baku club lost to Slovenia's Celje in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League – 2:3 and 3:3 on aggregate.
Under the management of Valdas Dambrauskas, the team will face Moldova’s Petrocub in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. The first leg will be played away.
The second qualifying round matches of the UEFA Conference League will take place on July 24 and 31.
