"Sabah showed real character yesterday."
According to Idman.biz, this was stated to AZERTAC by the head coach of Azerbaijan’s U-19 national team, Elkhan Abdullayev, while commenting on Sabah’s elimination from the UEFA Conference League after losing 6–5 on aggregate to Slovenia’s Celje.
He said that the team’s lack of experience in European competitions had an impact on the outcome: “Sabah put up a good fight in both matches. Unfortunately, the single goal scored in extra time decided everything. Our representative performed with dignity in all their European matches. It’s just that the lack of sufficient international experience causes certain problems.”
The 55-year-old specialist noted gaps in the Baku side’s defense: “The attack did its job well in both matches. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the defense. Conceding six goals in two games shows serious issues at the back.”
Abdullayev also commented on Sabah’s upcoming opponent in the second qualifying round of the Conference League, Moldovan club Petrocub: “I don’t have any information about them. However, Sabah must progress from this round. It’s too early to talk about the next stages.”
Sabah will play the first leg away. The UEFA Conference League second qualifying round matches are scheduled for July 24 and 31.
