Former head coach of the French national team and 2006 FIFA World Cup silver medalist Raymond Domenech has shared his thoughts on the upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers between Azerbaijan and France.
Idman.biz reports that in an exclusive statement to AZERTAC, Domenech assessed the chances of both teams:
“I don’t have much to say about Azerbaijani football. I know that most of the national team’s players are from Qarabag. The team hasn’t been winning its recent matches. Our last encounter ended in a win for France.”
Domenech also noted the presence of Fernando Santos, a seasoned Portuguese coach, at the helm of Azerbaijan’s national team:
“Santos is a coach with titles. However, beyond coaching, the quality of the players is crucial.”
Domenech coached France from 2004 to 2010, leading Les Bleus in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
The two sides will face off on:
October 10 (away for Azerbaijan)
November 16 (home match in Azerbaijan)
