Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi brought out of induced coma, now communicating with family

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been brought out of an induced coma.

The Nigerian forward is said to be recovering well after undergoing emergency abdominal surgery, Idman.biz reports, citing Daily Mail.

The incident occurred during the Premier League Matchweek 36 clash against Leicester City (2–2). Awoniyi came on in the 83rd minute, but just four minutes later, he collided with the goalpost after a fall, receiving a strong blow to the abdomen.

Although he managed to continue playing and finish the match, he was rushed to the hospital immediately afterward, where he underwent surgery.

Currently, the 27-year-old is conscious and able to communicate with his family. Medical staff are hopeful for his full recovery and eventual return to the pitch.

Awoniyi has made 26 appearances and scored 1 goal in the current Premier League season.
