Vagif Javadov: "I don’t think I rushed my decision"

“The decision was made today,” said former head coach of Sumgayit FC, Vagif Javadov, in a statement to Idman.biz following his departure from the club’s senior team.

Javadov explained that the decision came after discussions with the club’s management:
“I’ll still remain involved with Sumgayit FC moving forward. For now, I plan to take a short break before focusing on my PRO license coursework. I’ll continue both my studies and work at the club. As coaches, we know that today you may be at one club, and tomorrow at another. If opportunities arise, why not consider them? But for now, I’m continuing with Sumgayit.”

He also dismissed the notion that becoming a head coach at this stage was premature:
“I don’t think I rushed it—what was I supposed to do, wait until I was 50? Every step is part of gaining experience. I want to thank the management of Sumgayit FC for trusting me with this opportunity. If the team stayed in the Premier League, then I had a hand in that result too.”

Under Javadov’s leadership, Sumgayit played 28 matches across all competitions—25 in the Premier League and 3 in the Azerbaijan Cup—securing 7 wins, 6 draws, and 15 losses.
