FIFA has unveiled plans for its new Video Review System (VRS), an alternative to the existing VAR, aimed at expanding video replay options in matches.
According to Idman.biz, the new system, which has been tested in the U17 and U20 Women’s World Cups, functions similarly to the "challenge" system used in other sports. Under this setup, each team's head coach can request a video review by the referee twice per game.
FIFA is now seeking approval from the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to trial VRS in leagues with limited camera setups (4-5 cameras). If approved, this could open the door for wider adoption in smaller leagues.
