"I respect Sporting. Viktor needs to stay until the end of the season... and then, perhaps, he will go somewhere else."
According to Idman.biz, this statement was made by Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim. Following his final home game and after the Champions League match against Manchester City, Amorim shared his thoughts on Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres.
Amorim, who is set to start as Manchester United’s head coach on November 11, confirmed that he has no plans to bring Gyökeres with him in January: " "I respect Sporting. Viktor needs to stay until the end of the season... and then, perhaps, he will go somewhere else. I won’t make jokes about this, as I respect this club and it’s my city."
As he transitions to his new role at Manchester United, Amorim downplayed the significance of Sporting’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City: " "What I can tell you is that this doesn't mean anything in particular, don't take anything from this," Amorim said.
"It's misleading. We were very lucky today. We cannot transport one reality to another. Manchester United cannot play the way we play and we will have to adapt."
