Rufat Guliyev on his departure: "They didn’t keep their promises..." - INTERVIEW

Former head coach of Albania’s Bilis, Rufat Guliyev, speaks to Idman.biz in an exclusive interview.

- Could you explain the reasons for your departure?

- I only worked there for two months. I was the assistant coach of the main team, the head coach for the U21 squad, and also oversaw the U19 team. Everything was going well – the U21 team won all five matches under my management, and I was making good progress with the U19 as well. However, the main team’s situation was the complete opposite. They are currently near the bottom of the standings.

- So, despite the main team’s poor performance, you chose to leave the Albanian club?

- Yes. According to my agreement with the club president, all my expenses were supposed to be covered. But when the time came, they quoted a different amount, which was not in the contract. This created a misunderstanding. I was training three times a day under these terms, but the unexpected treatment I received was disappointing. They actually want me to come back, but they won’t change the terms, so I decided not to return to Bilis.

- Are there any other offers on the table?

- Yes, discussions are ongoing. We’re awaiting offers and I hope to reach a decision soon.

- Former national player Amil Yunanov is also with Bilis but has only played one game. Why is that?

- Amil has faced similar issues, with promises made to him that were not kept. This has complicated his situation. It would be best for him to answer this question himself, but I think he’s likely to leave as well. Working with a club that doesn’t fulfill its promises just doesn’t seem right.
