Nagelsmann sets clear target as Germany chase World Cup qualification

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has made it clear that his team must secure back-to-back victories in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland to stay on track for automatic qualification.

Idman.biz reports that the four-time world champions will host Luxembourg on October 10 before traveling to Belfast three days later.

Nagelsmann’s 24-man squad features one newcomer, Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown, while key players Antonio Rüdiger and Jamal Musiala will miss out due to injuries. Despite these absences, Nagelsmann insists Germany’s squad has enough quality. “Two wins, that is our clear goal. Even if we are missing some players, we must do it better than recently,” he said.

Germany, currently third in Group A with three points, trail Northern Ireland on goal difference. Slovakia lead with six points, while Luxembourg sit bottom without a point. Germany lost their opener 2-0 to Slovakia but bounced back with a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland. Reinforcements include Nico Schlotterbeck in defense, Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlovic, and forwards Jonathan Burkardt, Nick Woltemade, and Maximilian Beier.

With the top spot granting direct entry to the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, Nagelsmann’s men cannot afford any slip-ups.
