FIDE has announced the list of players qualified for the prestigious Grand Swiss tournament, a key event in the World Championship cycle.
Four Azerbaijani chess players will take part in the tournament, which will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Idman.biz reports.
In the open section, Azerbaijan will be represented by Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mammadov, and Eltaj Safarli. In the women’s category, Gunay Mammadzada will compete, while Govhar Beydullayeva has been listed as a reserve participant.
Participants were selected based on their international ratings. The final lineup will be confirmed after allocating continental spots, wildcard nominations by the FIDE president, and organizer invitations.
The tournament will be held from September 3 to 16, and the top two players in both the open and women's categories will secure spots in the Candidates Tournament.
