Azerbaijani chess player and European champion Ulviyya Fataliyeva has reflected on a period of inconsistent performances in her career, emphasizing that setbacks are a natural part of professional sport.
Speaking to İdman.Biz, Fataliyeva acknowledged that despite a successful start to the year, she had struggled to maintain consistency in subsequent tournaments.
"If we look back at the beginning of the year, I became the Azerbaijani champion for the first time and then won an international women's tournament. Everything started well," she said.
"Unfortunately, after that, I was unable to maintain consistency in some tournaments. Of course, this is part of the journey. You cannot always win. Ups and downs are an inevitable part of the process," the chess player added.
Fataliyeva's comments highlight the challenges athletes face in maintaining their form throughout a demanding competitive season.
Despite the fluctuations in her results, the European champion remains one of Azerbaijan's prominent female chess players.
It should be noted that Fataliyeva also held a simultaneous chess exhibition for young players today, sharing her experience with the next generation of Azerbaijani chess talents.
