Chess tournament in Malaysia to honor Azerbaijan National Leader Remembrance Day 2025

For the 3rd consecutive year, The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) will collaborate with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to organize the Azerbaijan National Leader Remembrance Day 2025 to commemorate the birth anniversary of their national leader, Heydar Aliyev.

The event is scheduled to be held on 17th May 2025 at UiTM Hotel Shah Alam at the hotel’s Dewan Sri Impian, located on the ground floor. UiTM Shah Alam has also agreed to host and sponsor the event’s venue despite their busy schedule, as the event is also being held during their University’s convocation week.

As per the previous editions, the event will be FIDE-rated with Rapid discipline using a time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment played over 7 rounds. Divided into the Open/Men and Women events, MCF has set aside a prize fund of RM7,500 for the eventual winners, with RM1,000 for the Open/Men Champion and RM800 for the Women Champion. 10 main prizes are up for grabs for both events, with additional prizes to be given to Best U18, U12, Veteran (50+), OKU, and Unrated. Special prizes have also been set aside for UiTM students who do well in the tournament.

Men players who have a FIDE Rating of 2100 and above, and Women players with a FIDE Rating of 1900 and above, are invited to play for FREE. Foreigners, regardless of their Rating or Title, will have to pay an entry fee of RM150, while the entry fees of other players will depend on their rating brackets. OKU players who are interested in playing are advised to bring their own helper as resources will be tight and minimal.
