Nijat Abasov: "Mood plays the key role"

"I do wonderful. I'm trying to get used to the time zone and the weather."

Idman.biz reports that Azerbaijani chess player Nijat Abasov said this in an interview with the ChessBase India.

Today, the chess player, who will start his speech at the Candidates Tournament, talked about the impact of the competition on his life. He said that the presence of fan support gives him additional motivation: "He [Shakhriyar Mamedyarov] is a positive person to begin with and I think having good mood is key. On top of that, he is a top player himself. His presence here motivates me."

Abasov also emphasized that his friend lives in Canada: "I have a friend in Toronto, where the race is held. We were together in the military. I saw him here for the first time after 8 years. I don’t have sponsors but I have supporters. The head of Chess Federation Mahir Mammadov who helped me the entire time. And definitely everyone who came to the World Cup and supported me. The half reason why I am here is the people who is inspiring me. I have a friend living in Toronto. We were in the army together. It has been 8 years. We haven’t met ever since."

It should be noted that Nijat will face Ian Nepomniachtchi in the first round.
