Azerbaijani chess players Eltaj Safarli and Gulnar Mammadova were recognized for their outstanding performances at the European Team Championship held in Batumi, Georgia.
Idman.Biz, citing the Chess Federation of Azerbaijan, reports that Eltaj Safarli secured first place on Board 3, earning a gold medal. He finished ahead of all his peers with 3 wins and 4 draws.
Gulnar Mammadova took third place on Board 4, winning 6 out of 8 rounds, and was awarded a bronze medal at the closing ceremony.
Members of the Azerbaijani men’s team, who finished second in the championship, received silver medals, diplomas, and a trophy.
The awards were presented by Mahir Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Vice President of the International Chess Federation.
