"I prepared very well for the European Championship. Both my national and personal coaches and I worked extremely hard during the training camps, and thankfully, we saw the results of that effort."
This was said by Amina Taghi, winner of the Junior European Boxing Championship held in Novi Pazar, Serbia, in an interview with the official website of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, Idman.biz reports.
The 15-year-old boxer, who claimed the title in the 50 kg category, reflected on her victory. She stated that her goal was the gold medal from the moment she left for the competition: "The European Championship turned out to be very successful for me. I trusted in myself and my abilities. I faced Slovakian boxer Dominika Vnukova in the semifinals and won convincingly. In the final, my opponent was Armenian Hamest Afrikyan. I knew going into that fight that no matter what, I had to win. I had prepared very well for the decisive bout. My coaches and family gave me excellent motivation beforehand. As a result, I fought with full confidence in the ring and secured a very important victory. I’m overjoyed. The medal ceremony wasn’t held in the arena, but in the city center. Hearing the Azerbaijani national anthem in Novi Pazar was an indescribable moment of joy for me."
Amina Taghi also revealed her main goal: to achieve success at the Olympic Games.
"Everything I’m training for now is aimed at the grand event held every four years."
Azerbaijan’s female boxers earned 1 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the European Championship.
