The opening ceremony of the international Heydar Aliyev Cup 2025 boxing tournament for youth boys and girls was held today.
The event took place at the Baku Boxing Center, beginning with a parade of participating teams, Idman.biz reports.
In his speech, Nagi Safarov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, emphasized that hosting international competitions has become a tradition in the country. He spoke about the importance of the Heydar Aliyev Cup and wished success to all participants.
Following the playing of the National Anthem, the tournament was officially declared open.
The competition features national teams from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Russia, Belarus, Turkiye, and Georgia. A total of 216 boxers — 185 boys and 31 girls — are taking part.
The tournament will determine winners in 14 weight categories among boys and 9 weight categories among girls.
The final bouts of the Heydar Aliyev Cup 2025 will take place on May 21.
